About the University

Centuries-old traditions, digital agriculture

The University was founded in 1865 in Moscow as the Petrovskaya Agricultural and Forest Academy and today bears the name of the plant physiologist Kliment Timiryazev. Abroad it is known as the Russian State Agrarian University, at home simply as the Timiryazev Academy.

It is one of Russia's oldest and largest agricultural universities: eight institutes, a technological college and a branch in Kaluga train agronomists, veterinarians, engineers, food technologists, economists and IT specialists for agribusiness. Research is carried out on the University's own experimental fields, in its laboratories, greenhouses and the Forest Experimental Station.

The historic campus in the north of Moscow, with its parks, ponds and museums, is listed in the State Register of Especially Valuable Cultural Heritage Sites of Russia.

The campus covers 555 hectares — two and a half times the size of Monaco.
