International discount

Lower fees for your first year

International applicants on fee-paying contracts receive a fixed discount on the first year of study: 25% for Bachelor's programmes and 50% for Master's programmes. For example, a typical full-time Bachelor's programme at 376,600 RUB costs 282,450 RUB in the first year.

The International Admissions Office confirms the final amount in your contract.

Free tuition

Russian Government quota

A scholarship of the Government of the Russian Federation for foreign citizens and stateless persons. It covers tuition and can be received once for each level of study.

How to apply

  1. 1Register on education-in-russia.com, open “My applications” and click “Create a new application”
  2. 2Choose the level of study, the field and up to six universities
  3. 3Upload scans of your passport, your education certificate (or a certificate from your current school) and your transcript
  4. 4For postgraduate (PhD) studies, add a motivation letter and an essay or article on your future research topic
  5. 5Click “Submit for review” — applications left as “Draft” do not take part in the selection

Quota candidates do not take entrance examinations. You can also get advice from the Rossotrudnichestvo office or the Russian embassy in your country.

Common mistakes

  • Wrong country of application

Enter your country of citizenship. If you have two citizenships and one is Russian, enter the other one; if both are foreign, enter your country of permanent residence. If you enter Russia, the application stays a draft.

  • Losing access to your email

Your email is your digital passport in the system. It cannot be changed, so you need permanent access to it.

  • Wrong level of study

After a Specialist's degree you apply for postgraduate (PhD) studies, not a Master's programme. Choose supplementary education only if you already have, or are getting, a higher education degree.

  • Skipping the Foundation programme

If your Russian is weak, choose the Foundation programme straight away rather than in a hurry at the end of the campaign.

  • Wrong order of universities

The first university in your list is your top priority. You can change the order only before the selection starts.

Scholarships

Who receives a scholarship

Monthly payments from the state for students in state-funded places.

Russian Government quota

Students admitted under the quota of the Government of the Russian Federation receive the State Academic Scholarship for the whole period of study, regardless of their academic results.

State-funded place on general terms

Compatriots, citizens of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, and residence permit holders admitted to state-funded places receive the State Academic Scholarship on exactly the same terms as Russian students.

Fee-paying contract

Students on fee-paying contracts do not receive a state scholarship. The international discount on the first year applies instead.

The State Academic Scholarship is paid to students in state-funded places who finish the examination period without “satisfactory” grades or academic debt. First-year students receive the basic amount in their first semester. Your institute's Dean's Office can tell you the current rates and payment dates.
